A Georgia babysitter and her boyfriend pleaded guilty to savagely beating a 2-year-old under her care to death.

Kristie Flood, who was 29 at the time, pleaded guilty in March to two counts of murder , malice murder, aggravated battery and first-degree cruelty to a child after the death of Fallon Fridley, two, on December 9, 2020.

The Sandy Springs Police Department , located in Sandy Springs, a suburb of Atlanta just 17 miles north of the city, was called to an address on Monterey Parkway on December 9, 2020, after receiving reports of an unresponsive child. Inside, officials found Fallon severely injured and unresponsive.

EMS gave the child CPR, then transported her to a local hospital. She was subsequently pronounced dead, according to Sandy Springs Police Sgt. Salvador Ortega, who spoke to FOX 5 in 2020. Fallon was under the care of babysitter Kristie Flood at the time.

Flood told the authorities Fallon was injured on a slide at the local playground. But Sgt. Ortega said the babysitter's account of events "was not consistent with the severe injuries [Fallon] had." An autopsy of the young girl showed she suffered severe injuries , according to the police , and an investigation was thus opened into how she received them.

A warrant for Flood's arrest was issued. Investigators said, according to Fox News , that they found damning searches on her phone, including: "what type of people enjoy abusing other people's children," and "what does it mean to have a sudden urge to beat a child that's not yours."

Flood was arrested six days after the murder , it was reported, and charged with two counts of murder, malice murder, aggravated battery and first-degree cruelty to a child, the police said.

In March of this year, Flood pleaded guilty to those charges and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The investigation also uncovered a connection to Flood's boyfriend, Jeffrey Meyers, who pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Meyers was charged after it was determined that he did nothing to stop the horrific abuse after witnessing it go down. Horrifying nanny cam footage showed the abuse playing out in the home.

At the time of the murder , Kristin Fridley Gantt, Fallon's mother, told WSB-TV that the revelation that Flood, who had been a close friend of Gantt's, could do something so "evil" was shocking to her. "It's like she snapped," the mother told WSB-TV. "It's like this evil was in front of my face for years and I never saw it."

It was later revealed that Flood had several prior arrests related to battery and drug possession. Officials told FOX 5 that they hope the sentencing that was carried out earlier this year will "bring closure and a semblance of peace to the family."
