Spencer Rattler verdict speaks volumes as Saints rookie QB impresses again

The New Orleans Saints continue to be impressed with rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler who put in another eye-opening performance in preseason leaving his own players amazed .

Rattler threw for 105 yards on just 13 attempts which included a perfect touch pass to Equanimeous St. Brown for a touchdown, which had many fans wondering whether the team might have found their long-term starter .

The quarterback had come into preseason as the third quarterback on the depth chart after his surprising fall in the NFL Draft. But he now looks to have assured himself the back-up job while putting pressure on starter Derek Carr with the quality of many of his passes through the past three games - leaving fellow rookie Jacob Kibodi in awe.

Kibodi, an undrafted rookie who has made a big impression and is also looking to claim a roster spot and compete with the team, told reporters: "He's spectacular... he's just full of talent. The throw he made to EQ, crazy. He has a swagger about him that uplifts everyone around him. He's so full of talent."

Rattler had always had the talent to get to a position where he'd be competing to start in the league, but his rollercoaster years in college football saw his stock drop exponentially - surprisingly falling to the fifth-round of the NFL Draft.

But after seeing him play in just three games Saints fans are already beginning to discuss him as their future franchise quarterback despite him battling for the backup job with limited opportunities.

Rattler will now go into the season as the back-up, likely unable to get a shot at playing time unless Carr struggles to perform or suffers an injury.

But in his three games with the Saints in preseason, the pocket passer has shown to be at least a capable quarterback should he be called upon, completing 20-of-38 for 202 yards and one touchdown while rushing for 26 yards and another score - doing so while playing with the third-string offensive line for the majority.

Saints head coach Dennis Allen has praised both back-ups Rattler and Jake Haener, but it feels like the majority of fans have already made their decision on the future of the position with the team.

One fan commented: "Derek Carr has to be nervous watching Rattler play right now," while another said: "We cannot possibly have Rattler as QB3... he's going to be the future starter."
