Oak Ridge Girl Scout Norah Price has earned the Silver Award, which is the highest award that can be earned at the cadette level.

To earn the Silver Award, middle school girls must identify an issue that affects their community and implement a project that leads to lasting change.

Norah’s project was integrated with the work of the local Holiday Bureau . Since 1945 the Holiday Bureau, an all volunteer and non-profit organization, has provided toys, games, books and food to low-income families in Anderson County. Although distribution from the Holiday Bureau is concentrated during the holiday season, the volunteers work and accept donations year round.

Norah became acquainted with the mission of the Holiday Bureau when as a young Girl Scout,  she joined other Oak Ridge Girl Scout troops to refurbish donated dolls in the Dolls for Daisy Project . Every year Girl Scouts of all ages clean, style hair, dress and package hundreds of Barbie dolls and other dolls to be distributed by the Holiday Bureau.

Norah expanded her project, presenting information about the needs of the Holiday Bureau to schools and other Girl Scout troops. She created a display at the Oak Ridge Public Library to make citizens aware of the Holiday Bureau, what type of donations were needed and where people can donate or volunteer. Norah did a door-to-door toy drive in her neighborhood and collected donations offered on social media. She completed her project by painting the Holiday Bureau sign denoting the location.

Norah is a member of Girl Scout Troop 21158 and participates in activities with the Sisterhood of the Tan Vests.

Monetary donations to the Holiday Bureau can be made anytime at the following address: P.O. Box 7120, Oak Ridge, TN 37831-7120. Items can be dropped off at the nonprofit, located at 728B Emory Valley Road. More information can be found at www.holidaybureau.org .
