KINGSPORT — The Science Hill boys and Dobyns-Bennett girls repeated as the Big East Conference champions on Wednesday at Warriors Path Golf Course.

The Hilltoppers turned in a team score of 281 to best the field. Matt Hogan led the way with a 5-under 67 to earn medalist honors. Combine that with a 70 from Paul Haire, a 71 from Will Sanders and a 73 from Isaac Helphinstine and the Toppers finished 22 strokes ahead of second-place West Ridge (303). D-B finished third at 308. Volunteer finished in seventh place with a 322.

Austin Williams shot a 74 to lead Volunteer. Jackson McLain came in with an 81, followed by Aiden Miller at 83 and Cameron Cox at 84. Brock Collier (90) and Kain Cornett (103) also competed for Volunteer.

The defending state champion Lady Indians won the Big East Conference girls championship with a team score of 154 — 15 strokes ahead of second-place Tennessee High (169). Science Hill finished third (172).

D-B’s Aliezah Robinson shot a 70 to earn medalist honors. Volunteer senior Zetta Smith led the Lady Falcons with an 87. She was one of only nine female golfers to come in under 90 on the day. Addyson Fisher finished at 103 for a team score of 190. Kathryn Geise (118) and Josie Sewell (119) also competed for Volunteer.

“Austin Williams, Zetta Smith and Aiden Mullins all had great days as individuals. The team just didn’t have our best,” said Volunteer head coach Jim Whalen. “No time to panic. Four more weeks until district time and the teams will play better.”

The conference championships mark the midway point in the season for the league. The district tournament will be held Monday, Sept. 23, at Crockett Ridge.

Next up for Volunteer is a home match against Daniel Boone on Wednesday, Sept. 4, at Bays Mountain Golf Club. The teams tee off at 4 p.m. The Falcons will also travel to Bristol Country Club for a match with Tennessee High on Thursday, Sept. 5.
