    Church anniversary

    Mount Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 230 Boyd St., Winterville, will observe its 145th Church Anniversary and Homecoming Services on Sunday. The morning guest at 10 a.m. will be Pastor Johnnie Phillips and New Jerusalem Church, and the 3 p.m. afternoon guest will be Dr. Daniel House and St. Peter MB Church. Dinner will be served between services.

    Coffee with a Cop

    The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office will host Coffee with a Cop from 9-11:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Coopers Cup, 2588 Railroad St., Winterville. Call 830-4141 or visit www.pittcountysheriff.com.

    Opening reception

    The Greene County Chamber of Commerce will hold an opening reception for “Power In Art” from 6-8 p.m. on Sept. 12 at the Greene County Museum, 107 N.W. Third St., Snow Hill. Enjoy wine and hors d’oeuvres, as well as a 50/50 raffle and other prizes. All proceeds go to the museum. For more information call 747-1999.

    Widows luncheon

    Faith Assembly Church Widow’s/Divorced Ministry is hosting a free Widows Empowering Widows luncheon from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 14 at Rustic Rose Hall at Homeplace Events Venue, 3815 Emma Cannon Road, Ayden.     Pastor’s anniversary

    Good Hope Free Will Baptist Church, 2506 Mill St., Winterville, will celebrate Pastor Alton K. Wooten’s 14-year anniversary at 10 a.m. on Sept. 15. Bishop Michael Pretty and Joe’s Branch Free Will Baptist Church will be guests.

    Sports registration

    Greene County is offering online registration for Park and Recreation programs. County residents can sign up for tee ball, baseball, flag football and/or soccer and pay online until Sept. 15. Visit greenecountync.gov/online-sport-registration.

    Registration Day

    Greene County elections staff will handle voter registrations from 4-6 p.m. on National Voter Registration Day, Sept. 17, at the Greene County Public Library, 229 Kingold Blvd., Suite G, Snow Hill. A Board of Elections meeting will also take place at 6 p.m. on Sept. 17 at the Greene County Operations Center, 312 S.E. Second St., Snow Hill.

    Blood drive

    The Greene County Chamber of Commerce will hold a blood drive from 3-7 p.m. on Sept. 19 at the Greene County Museum, 107 N.W. Third St., Snow Hill. Visit redcrossblood.org and enter GreeneCOC to schedule an appointment.

    Job Fair

    Lenoir Community College will sponsor a Greene County Job Fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sept. 24 at the Greene County Wellness Center, 84 N. Perry Drive, Snow Hill.     John Lawson Days

    John Lawson Legacy Days will take place Oct. 18-19 at Grifton Historical Museum and Indian Village, 437A Creekshore Drive. Friday’s events run from 5-9 p.m. and feature night cannon firing, storytelling, camp food and entertainment. On Saturday, events run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be cannon firings throughout the day, history presentations, demonstrations and exhibitors inside and outside the museum.     Ayden forum

    The Town of Ayden will host a Community Policing and Utility Forum at 6 p.m. Oct. 22 at the Ayden Community Building, 548 Second St. Residents are invited to learn about electric, water and sewer rates and how city police are working to keep Ayden safe. There will be an opportunity for those attending to ask questions.

    Nature Saturdays

    The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences at Contentnea Creek, 949 Contentnea Lane, Grifton, hosts Nature Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. During this time, the park’s trails and play areas are open for visitors to explore. Visit atimeforscience.org.

    Health Talks

    Health Talks with Jennifer Lane, health educator with the Greene County Department of Public Health, are held at 11 a.m. every third Thursday at the Greene County Senior Center, 104 Greeneridge Road. They are free and open to Greene County Residents. Call 747-5436.

    Farmville Senior Council

    The Farmville Senior Council meets on the third Wednesday of the month at the Farmville Public Library, 4276 W. Church St. Meetings start at 1 p.m. either in-person or via Zoom. For more information or to attend online send an email to farmvilleseniorcouncil@gmail.com.

    Hospice volunteers

    3HC is seeking volunteers for its hospice program. Volunteers provide support to caregivers, offer companionship to patients and take part in meaningful activities. They also can offer spiritual support, administrative and clerical support, take part in special events and fundraising activities and assist the Wings Program for Grieving Children or the Veterans to Veteran program. Residents of Greene, Pitt, Beaufort or Lenoir counties who would like to spend time with patients and their families in need can email volunteer coordinator Nena Ellis at nellis@3hc.org.

    Animal adoptions

    The Humane Society of Eastern Carolina, 3520 Tupper Drive, is open by appointment only from 1-5 p.m. Thursday-Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 1-4 p.m. Sunday.     Garden tours

    The Pitt County Arboretum will host garden tours from noon to 1 p.m. on the second Friday of each month. The Northside Plant Walks utilize the arboretum and the Northside Walking Trail to tell a story about the plants with each tour.     Family Chess Club

    The Family Chess Club meets from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at Apt To Learn, 650 E. Fire Tower Road, Suite B, Winterville. Chess lectures will be from 6-7 p.m. Chess sets are provided. All levels of players are welcome. The club is an affiliate of the United States Chess Federation and conducts sanctioned chess tournaments on occasion.     Project Fan

    The Pitt County Council on Aging is providing free fans to individuals older than 60 who have no air conditioning or are unable to afford utilities, have not received a fan from the COA in the last two years and can present a photo ID. Call 752-1717 ext. 206.
