Fishing rod raffle helps fund Stanly 4-H programs

Stanly County 4-H is selling raffle tickets for two fishing rods, and it will use the proceeds to send Stanly kids to summer camp and conduct free youth programming throughout the year.
“Proceeds from each of our fundraising efforts stay right here in Stanly County,” said 4-H Agent Mandy Smith-Thompson. “The fishing rods in the raffle are valued at $229 each, and we will draw two winners on Wednesday, Oct. 9.”
She also noted the pair of 8-foot carbon fiber Phenix M1 rods were donated by a Stanly County family who wishes to remain anonymous.
Raffle tickets are available for purchase at the Stanly Cooperative Extension Office 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets are $5 each, or five for $20, and can be purchased with cash or check made payable to Stanly County 4-H through Oct. 9 when the drawing is held.

The Fishin’ Rod Raffle is one of several 4-H fundraisers planned for the 2024-2025 year. Look for the annual 4-H Holiday Greenery sale this fall and the 4-H Plant Sale in the spring, possibly with fruit trees and berry bushes back.
All year long, donations can also be made to the Clover Contribution Campaign at go.ncsu.edu/donate4H . Individuals can also support Stanly 4-H at the Albemarle Tractor Supply store during the biannual Paper Clover drives.
Fundraising proceeds alone made it possible to offer 4-H Summer Blast programs free of charge for the first time this summer.
A combination of fundraising and grant-writing also made it possible for 12 Stanly County kids to spend a week at Millstone 4-H Camp either free or at a discounted rate in June.
“Cost should not be a barrier to 4-H participation for any child.” said Stanly County Extension Director Molly Alexi. “We are so grateful for the support of our community. It makes 4-H’s youth development work possible and more accessible to all.”
