A popular Mexican restaurant in Macon was set to reopen Wednesday following a kitchen fire in early August at its Tom Hill Sr. Boulevard location.

Guitarras Mexican Grill announced via social media on Aug. 4 that it was temporarily closing its doors due to a fire that broke out in the kitchen overnight.

Restaurant co-owner Giovanna Pina told The Telegraph the staff was prepping Monday and Tuesday to reopen its doors at 11 a.m. on Wednesday.

“We have finally gotten approval from the health department to reopen,” she said. “We feel blessed to know that we can count on our staff and supportive customers. Thankfully it was only temporary and we are excited to get back up and running.”

Pina said the restaurant, which will also have a new look, will resume its normal business hours.

She said in a previous interview with The Telegraph following the closure that an electrical fire started in the kitchen.

“When we arrived that morning there was a lot of water at the entrance and in the kitchen and the sprinklers were on,” she said. “We then found the fire in the kitchen.”

On Aug. 9, the restaurant posted a heart-warming update that included a collage of photos from moments taken at the restaurant with a message that read “WE MISS YALL!”

Pina said the Thomaston Road location along with the Spring Street restaurant downtown will remain open while they prepare for the Tom Hill Sr. Boulevard location to reopen Wednesday morning. She said their food truck will also open.
