Travis Kelce yet to win over Hollywood ‘old guard’ like George Clooney as NFL legend targets Hollywood movie career

KANSAS City Chiefs star Travis Kelce hasn’t done enough to wow the Hollywood elites, The U.S. Sun has been told.

The NFL tight end’s popularity has surged since he became involved with popstar sensation Taylor Swift , leading to his role as the host of Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?

But the movie industry’s “old guard” such as George Clooney or Julia Roberts doesn’t think of Kelce , 34, as a star of the same caliber just yet, an industry insider told The U.S. Sun.

To get there, the three-time Super Bowl winner needs more than his gig on Amazon ‘s Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader? reboot, per the insider.

“Travis is a star because of his relationship with Taylor Swift, his championship football prowess, and the natural charisma he has shown on his podcast and elsewhere,” the source said.

“But making the transition to a true Hollywood mainstay is a lot trickier.

“And his hosting gig on Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity? isn’t the instant stepping stone to the A-list it might have seemed when he signed up for the gig.”

The source explained that hosting the refreshed Are You Smarter? doesn’t hold as much prestige as initially thought because of the show’s celebrity guest selection.

Natasha Leggero is the only somewhat well-known actress and comedian among those who have participated in tapings, the insider said.

Leggero has been revealed as part of the cast alongside Nikki Glaser, Nicole Byer, Ron Funches, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson, Lala Kent , Sophia Stallone, and Lilly Singh.

“The producers and Amazon have made sure to stock the show’s guests/contestants with firmly B-list names that aren’t likely to outshine Travis,” the source said.

“But that’s having the side effect of giving him very little on-camera experience with the kind of top-level names whose ranks he’s desperate to join.

“For all the hype around his potential Hollywood career, he still hasn’t taken off the training wheels.

“Even though he’s trying to establish his show business brand apart from Taylor, can he really do any of this without her there every step of the way?

“This really becomes a problem as Travis tries to win over a higher echelon of stars and get into juicy movie projects, which he’s been taking steps toward this whole year.”

Kelce – who will make a cameo in Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore 2 – might need more patience, carefully trying to grow his brand in order to join the highest rank of Hollywood stars, said the source.

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end plans to become a “heavyweight” figure in music and entertainment.

Kelce has seen his star power rise after going public with his girlfriend Taylor Swift last summer.

The 34-year-old has now been cast in the new horror series Grotesquerie.

Directed by American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy, the drama is set to land on FX this fall.

Kelce will appear in the show alongside Niecy Nash-Betts, Courtney B. Vance, and Lesley Manville.

In August, Adam Sandler confirmed Travis will make a cameo in his upcoming Happy Gilmore sequel.

The news comes after Travis previously showed interest in appearing in a possible reboot.

The insider added that it could take time to get there, bringing up the example of Ryan Reynolds , who spent two decades climbing before he earned a spot among the industry’s creme de la creme.

“Travis doesn’t fit in that world yet,” the source said.

“And the last way to get in with the likes of George Clooney and Julia Roberts is to want it as badly as Travis does.”

Kelce is at least giving his all on the Are You Smarter? set, earning rave reviews from TV bosses, The U.S. Sun reported last month.

Unlike Hollywood execs, TV bosses think the Chiefs leader is on track for a rapid rise in showbusiness, a source said at the time.

“Guys like Ryan Seacrest and Ken Jennings are going to be shocked at how easily Travis has transformed into the smoothest host in the game show business,” the source said.
