There’s no quit in these Hops.

Despite being just a loss or a Vancouver win away from being eliminated from the 2024 playoffs, Hillsboro rallied with two runs late to get a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Tri-City on Thursday night, Sept. 5, at Gesa Stadium in Pasco.

Trailing by a run in the top half of the eighth, the Hops got an RBI single from Junior Franco who later scored what would amount to the go-ahead run on a throwing error after stealing both second and third base.

Hillsboro managed just four hits in the game, but got another outstanding starting pitching performance from Jose Cabrera who allowed one earned run on five hits, while striking out six and walking none in seven innings of work.

Cabrera is 3-1 with a 1.34 ERA in his last six starts, recording 42 strikeouts to just eight walks.

Yordin Chalas pitched the eighth and ninth innings in relief of Cabrera and allowed two hits over two shutout innings to close the game.

Vancouver had seven hits in the game, led by Sonny DiChiara who finished 2-for-4.

Franco, Jose Fernandez, Kevin Sim and Juan Corniel all had hits for the Hops.

Vancouver went on to defeat Eugene 4-3, eliminating Hillsboro from the postseason.
