Organizers: Antique event had ‘quintessential Southern charm’

The inaugural A Southern Antiques Affair was a success, organizers say. Attendees not only enjoyed the plethora of events offered over three days, organizer Jennifer Coulter said, but they were also impressed with the River City.

“We had so much positive feedback and people were pleasantly surprised by the amount of things that Vicksburg has to offer to a tourist,” she said. “We are more than just our national military park, which is a wonderful, wonderful thing, but we also have tons of museums and restaurants.”

In addition to what Vicksburg has to offer, Coulter said some of the feedback she heard from visitors included compliments about Vicksburg’s restaurants. She said some even commented that the Southern hospitality extended to  fast food chains.

A Southern Antiques Affair kicked off Friday and ran through Sunday afternoon. The bulk of the event, which included vendor booths and guest speakers, was held at the Vicksburg Convention Center, but during the three-day event, off-site happenings were also held with attendees having the option to travel to the destination by trolley or on the Vicksburg bus.

This also gave people the opportunity to connect with others who were attending the event.

“People really enjoyed the camaraderie of being with and meeting other people that have a similar interest,” Coulter said. “That was the biggest thing that I heard they loved.”

Coulter said more than 100 attendees participated in A Southern Antiques Affair and she expects more will come next year.

“It was just an event with ‘quintessential Southern charm.’”
