Armed man shot dead by police in Alexandria

Alexandria, Virginia, police said an officer shot and killed an armed man Monday night while responding to a call at an apartment complex.

Authorities said they received an alert regarding the building at 5101 Maris Avenue around 10:45 p.m.

“Upon arrival at the building, officers were met in the stairwell by an adult male armed with a firearm,” police said in a release. “The encounter resulted in an officer-involved shooting. The subject was pronounced deceased on the scene.”

No other injuries were reported by police. The shooting is under investigation.
