    Weekend event in Wichita will offer free airplane rides for kids

    Labor Day weekend will be an unusually busy one in Wichita this year. The Air Capital Fly-In is on the calendar, as are several live music events.

    Here’s a look at some of the fun things happening in Wichita this weekend and into next.

    Air Capital Fly-In

    8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, 3612 N. Webb Road

    The Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 88’s 61st annual Air Capital Fly-In happens on Saturday at Col. James Jabara Airport and will include aviation-related vendors, aircraft on display, flight competitions, building activities, food and free airplane rides for kids ages 8 through 17. The event lasts from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and free for kids ages 17 and under.

    RazaFest

    3-11:30 p.m. Saturday, Coleman Lot, 250 N. St. Francis

    RazaFest 2024, a music event put on by La Raza 102.5 FM, will happen from 3 to 11:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Coleman parking lot in downtown Wichita. The event, which is billed as family friendly, will feature music by groups such as Los Tucanes De Tijuana and Tapy Quintero as well as a performances of ballet folklorico and Lucha Libre wrestling. It’ll also feature lots of food. Tickets are $45 at ticketon.com

    Little Big Twang

    6 p.m. Sunday, Walker’s Jazz Lounge, 252 N. Mosley

    Little Big Twang, a band made up of local musicians including Bartlett Arboretum owner Robin Macy, is performing a show at Walker’s Jazz Lounge on Sunday. The band, regulars at the Winfield Bluegrass Festival, also includes guitarist Kentucky White, bassist Darren Wilcox and fiddler Shelby Eicher. The show, open to ages 21 and over, is from 6 to 9 p.m., and tickets are $10 to $20 at www.walkersjazzlounge.com/whats-on

    Heritage Square concert series

    Noon, Wednesdays through September, Heritage Square Park, 115 E. William

    The Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum’s annual Heritage Square Concert Series has started its 2024 run, and a new show will happen at noon every Wednesday during the month of September in Heritage Square Park, which is next to the museum. This week’s show will feature Mariachi Jalisco, followed by Pretend Friend on Sept. 11, The Historical Museum Radio Orchestra on Sept. 18, and Dear Friends on Sept. 25. Attendees should enter the square through the Historical Museum. Admission is free.

    Chiefs watch party

    6 p.m. Thursday, Naftzger Park, 601 E. Douglas

    Want to watch The Chiefs play along with fellow local football fans? Naftzger Park will be the host of Football in the Park, a watch party where attendees can see the team’s season opening against the Baltimore Ravens, which will be broadcast on the big screen at the park. The watch party starts at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5, and the event will feature adult beverages for sale, food trucks and more. Admission is free.
