FLORENCE, S.C. — The bats continued to produce for the Wilson Tobs on Saturday but the summer collegiate baseball team’s bullpen failed to protect a lead for the first time in three games in a 10-9 walk-off loss to the Florence Flamingos.

The Tobs, now 2-1 in the Coastal Plain League, fought back from a 7-3 deficit to go up 9-8 in the eighth before the Flamingos (2-0) posted a run each in their last two at-bats. In the decisive ninth inning, Florence tagged Wilson reliever Ethan Wilford for a pair of singles to go with two walks for the winning run. Wilford, the eighth hurler used by Tobs head coach Noah Cartwright, evened his record at 1-1.

Florence’s fifth pitcher, Owen Brockner, got the win despite giving up two runs in the eighth to surrender the lead.

The Tobs were led at the plate by first baseman Cole Robinson and shortstop A.J. Jones with three hits each. Robinson and center fielder Christian Michak, who was 2 for 4, each doubled in Wilson’s 15-hit attack. Left fielder Luke Bauer was 2 for 4, including a two-run home run in the seventh.

Owen Hull drove in three runs for Florence, which totaled eight hits.

The Tobs are off Sunday and will visit CPL East Division newcomer Greenville Yard Gnomes on Monday at Guy Smith Stadium and then host the Yard Gnomes on Tuesday at Fleming Stadium.
