Community Briefs: License checkpoint scheduled Friday

The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office will host a multi-agency license checking station starting Friday, Sept. 6.
Officials say the operation’s goal is to reduce crashes, injuries and deaths that contribute to impaired driving and other hazardous motor vehicle offenses.
Prayer service, block party planned
Crossroad Street Ministry will hold a North Carolina Day of Prayer service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at Lane Park, 1802 Bishop L.N. Forbes St. E.
After the prayer service, a Neighborhood Block Festival is planned from 1-5 p.m. at Lane Park featuring DJ Grayboy.
Wilson Idol talent show scheduled
The 2024 Wilson Idol talent showcase competition is planned for 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at Fike High School, 500 Harrison Drive.

Waymakers’ free meal is Sunday
Waymakers of North Carolina’s monthly free food plate giveaway is noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, in the parking lot of Jackson Chapel First Baptist Church, 571 Nash St. SE. Anyone who needs a hot meal is welcome.
Small Business Resource Fair is Tuesday
Gig East Exchange, the Small Business Center at Wilson Community College and the Wilson Chamber of Commerce will hold the 2024 Small Business Resource Fair from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, in Building R, Rooms 158 and 159, on WCC’s Lee Technology Center campus.
Attendees will visit vendor tables to learn about services for small businesses in Wilson.
Fire retirees gather for lunch Sept. 11
Fike High School retirees will meet at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, at Something Different Cafe and Catering, 3342 Airport Blvd., NW.
The group will reminisce until noon, then continue conversation over lunch. Retirees who haven’t confirmed their attendance can email Jeannette Etheridge at jneib2002@yahoo.com .
Webinar teaches entrepreneurs how to find customers
Existing and aspiring business owners are invited to attend a free webinar hosted by the Small Business Center at Wilson Community College, “How to Find Your Customers,” from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12.
