Sallie B’s Reyes wins 2nd race of season

Mina Reyes won for the second time in as many cross-country races as the the Sallie B. Howard School junior crossed the line first in the girls 5K race in a four-team meet hosted by the Eagles on Thursday, Sept. 5, at Gillette Athletic Complex.
Anna Pearson Garrett was fifth for Sallie B., but the Eagles only had those two runners and didn’t qualify for a team score. No official race times were available for the meet.
The Eagles took third place with 79 points in the boys meet with Iron Academy coasting to victory with 24 points to 36 by runner-up Commission Leadership. Bethesda Christian, the fourth team at the meet, didn’t have enough runners in either varsity race to have a team score.
Christopher Salgado led the Eagles with a 10th-place finish while Nathan Reyes was 13th, followed by David Sanchez (17th), Abraham Hernandez (19th) and Charlie Figueroa.
In Sallie B. Howard’s first meet of the season, Aug. 22 at North East Carolina Prep in Tarboro, Reyes won the girls race while Garrett placed sixth.
Reyes led the Eagle boys with a seventh-place finish while Salgado was ninth and Figueroa was 10th.
Both Sallie B. teams will run Thursday, Sept. 12, at a meet hosted by Commission Leadership in Youngsville.
