    Stephanie McCray's Story

United Funeral Homes reported Stephanie was born in Mobile and was the youngest of her siblings. At some time, her family decided to move to Birmingham and she served as an acolyte at church.

In 2005, she graduated from Spain Park High School and was a member of the Show Choir and Color Guard. She also enjoyed various activities such as playing the piano and dancing. After graduating, she attended the University of North Alabama, Troy State University, and Jacksonville State University.

Stephanie was an outgoing person with an effervescent personality. Always willing to help, always available; thus, she worked in many areas that allowed her to serve others. In 2011, she received a Capture Recognition Award while working as a dispatcher at the Dothan Police Department. As an adult, she assisted with dance teams and attended multiple churches.
Her pride and joy were her sons, Marcus (17) and Alex (14). She was known for being the loudest sideline cheerleader mom at their football and basketball games. She loved her boys immensely!

Tragically, this bright and compassionate spirit was cut short on July 14, 2024, when Stephanie lost her life at the hands of her husband, Ricky McCray, 45, outside a local McDonald's in Dale County, as reported by WTVY News.

Police said Stephanie McCray drove up to the drive-thru window after ordering and told an employee that the passenger, now believed to be her husband, Ricky, had a gun and to call the police.
After speaking to witnesses and obtaining surveillance video, investigators started looking into Ricky McCray. As a part of the investigation, they learned that Ricky and Stephanie had an on-and-off relationship.

WHN News reported video surveillance captured a black male wearing a white tank top and red shorts leaving the car Stephanie was in after shots were fired. Eventually, authorities gathered enough information, and search warrants for Ricky McCray were filed.

As of August 1, 2024, Ricky McCray waits for trial in the county jail with no set bond.

    Stephanie was Loved by Many

Since the news of Stephanie's perishing, family and friends have left many heartfelt messages online about her great personality and the love she had for her two sons. Her Echovito page states:

Though Stephanie may no longer walk beside us, her memory will forever be enshrined in the fabric of the lives of those Stephanie Smith touched, a beacon of light guiding us through the darkness. In her absence, her spirit lives on — a gentle whisper in the breeze, a ray of sunlight on a cloudy day, a reminder that love knows no boundaries.

To Alabamians on TikTok, Stephanie was known as Ceceunbothered with more than 1.4 million likes and over 39,000 followers. One follower, The Godmother, commented under Stephanie's last video saying," This is so heartbreaking. Love you so much my CeCe." Many other users left messages under the video with a simple, RIP.

Stephanie was officially laid to rest on July 20, 2024.
