    Severe thunderstorms with 60 mph winds and quarter-sized hail moving through Red Lake, Polk, Norman, and Pennington counties.

    [GRAND FORKS] — Issued by the National Weather Service at 4:45 AM CDT on Thursday, August 29, 2024.

    A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for parts of northwestern Minnesota until 5:30 AM CDT. The National Weather Service in Grand Forks warns that severe thunderstorms are moving east at 35 mph, affecting areas including Red Lake County, Northern Norman County, Southeastern Polk County, and South Central Pennington County.

    Thunderstorms Bringing Damaging Winds and Hail

    At 4:45 AM CDT, severe thunderstorms were detected along a line stretching from Crookston to Greenview to Nielsville. These storms are capable of producing wind gusts of up to 60 mph and quarter-sized hail.

    Residents in affected areas, including Crookston, Red Lake Falls, Fertile, McIntosh, Erskine, Oklee, and Plummer, are advised to prepare for:

    • Hail damage to vehicles.
    • Wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

    The National Weather Service urges all residents to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building for protection.
