Monte G. Kiffin (1940-2024)
Monte G. Kiffin, 84 of Redington Beach, FL, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2024, in Oxford, Mississippi. Monte Kiffin, the small town kid from Lexington, Nebraska went on to become one of the most influential defensive coaches in NFL history. Kiffin began his career in 1966, at the University of Nebraska where they won two National Championships during his time there. He quickly became one of the most respected defensive minds in football history, working with numerous teams but, most notably, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers; where he was considered the mastermind of the “Tampa Two” defense that helped lead them to their first Super Bowl championship in 2002. He was inducted into the Buccaneers Ring of Honor in 2021 and just last month, he was awarded the Pro Football Hall of Fame Award of Excellence for his outstanding work in the league.

Rain chances lower Wednesday, higher for the weekend
SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - Slightly drier air moves overhead for most of the Suncoast on Wednesday, which brings rain chances down again. The exception to that is northern Manatee County farther north to Tampa. Those are the areas with a chance for an afternoon thunderstorm Wednesday. But there’s plenty of tropical moisture to return, so rain chances are back up to end the week and for the weekend. More of the hot and dry Saharan Air Layer will move over Florida this weekend.
