Chad Cheatham, Fannin County head coach
Today’s interviewee is Fannin County coach Chad Cheatham, whose team defeated Rabun County 28-7 last week. Fannin County (2-0) had not had a winning season in eight years with it hired Cheatham, an alumnus, in 2018. The Rebels are 44-26 with two region titles since. Fannin’s No. 5 Class A Division I ranking is the school’s highest in history.
Football Recap: Carson Callihan Leads Fannin County to Victory over Rabun County
On Friday, the Fannin County Rebels made easy work of the Rabun County Wildcats and carried off a 28-7 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Rebels. Carson Callihan was nothing short of spectacular: he rushed for 187 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.4 yards per carry, and also picked up 36 receiving yards. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 116 rushing yards per game. Another player making a difference was Lawson Sullivan, who rushed for 101 yards on only ten carries.
Windham, Penland run away with Boys Runner of the Week honors
WYATT WINDHAM – LUMPKIN COUNTY. For a second straight week, Lumpkin County’s GOAT, Wyatt Windham, earns Runner of the Week status. The senior owned the field at the North Georgia Championships, crossing the line first at 15:39. This is a milestone for Windham, who now has won 10 Runner/Athlete of the Week awards, becoming one of only 5 BLITZ athletes to earn double-digit weekly awards.
Toccoa Falls gets up in thrilling Open Trot finish at Running Aces
Columbus, MN – The Sunday night (Aug. 25) program at Running Aces featured top-level trotters in the featured $15,500 Open Handicap. A six-pack of accomplished square-gaiters lined up for the feature with track record holder Domovoy (Jacob Cutting) held in high regard as the favorite at just over even money.
Trailblazers Score Four in First Half to Win on the Road
TOCCOA FALLS, GA - Women's soccer scored four goals in the first half and one in the second to earn a victory over Toccoa Falls College. Senior Karissa Buttelwerth didn't take long to give Trailblazers the lead after she fired in from the top of the box. Shortly after, Buttelwerth whipped in a cross and scored directly from a corner before finding the net a third time in the first half. Senior Elizabeth Grooms would also find the back of the net in both halves to round out the score.
