Temperatures are expected to top 110 degrees this week in the hottest desert areas of San Diego County, forecasters said Monday.

An excessive heat warning will be in place for inland areas and mountains from Wednesday morning through Friday evening, along with an excessive heat watch for the deserts.

The hot, dry weather will create elevated fire conditions across the mountains, valleys and deserts Thursday and Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

High temperatures Tuesday are expected to reach 78 to 83 near the coast, 85 to 89 inland, 88 to 92 in the western valleys, 95 to 100 near the foothills, 90 to 98 in the mountains and around 110 in the deserts.

A gradual cooling is expected for the weekend along with a slight chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms in the mountains, NWS said.

The marine layer will thin out this week, with night and morning low clouds becoming more patchy and primarily confined to coastal areas by midweek.
