TOPEKA ( KSNT ) – Lake Shawnee hosted Topeka’s largest 4th of July celebration.

The 14th annual Spirit of Kansas Blues Festival featured five different bands throughout Independence Day.

Blue Adame is a big blues fan, and never passes up an opportunity to enjoy it.

“It’s a wonderful festival right here, right in your backyard,” he said. “Beautiful weather, food, beautiful people. Everybody’s just having a good time, you know. And, I’ll come back every year.

From Kansas City, KS., Big Luke and the Soul Disciples was one of the bands that performed, and Adrian Wilson is the lead singer.

“Today’s performance went really well. This is a great place. Weather is good and crowd was great, so it went real good,” Wilson said. “The band, they were hummin’.”

The audience was hummin’ too. Many people, including attendee Weston Meier, enjoyed the time to relax on the holiday.

“Been going pretty good. Came out and enjoyed some blues and some brews,” Meier said.

Fellow attendee Bruce Mishler shared his sentiment.

“I’m just glad. This is fun, though. I mean I’m glad Topeka does something like this. It’s an excuse to get out and see things and have fun,” Mishler said.

The music and festivities will be going on throughout the evening outside Reynolds Lodge. The fireworks start at 10 p.m.
