Topeka shelter suspects more pets to be found following the Fourth of July

TOPEKA ( KSNT ) – Many pets dread the Fourth of July, due to the fireworks. And this year’s no different.

Helping Hands Humane Society (HHHS) in Topeka says the number of lost pets is on par with last year. They expect the numbers to go up through the weekend.

“Last year on this day, July 5th, we took in 44 animals,” Emi Griess, with Helping Hands Humane Society said. “So I imagine our numbers will be close and as people are off work over the weekend, maybe they have been keeping a stray dog at home or they will be home to see stray dogs more often, we will likely be getting more in.”

The shelter posts pictures of every pet they take in on its Facebook page Topeka shelter suspects more pets to be found following holiday for the owners to reclaim their loved one.
