    Former Topeka official’s domestic battery case dismissed

    TOPEKA ( KSNT ) – The case has been dismissed for former City of Topeka Chief Financial Officer Freddy Mawyin, who was accused of domestic battery last year.

    The Shawnee County District Court has dismissed the case against Mawyin July 15, 2024. According to court records, Mawyin filed a motion for self-defense immunity after being charged with the following misdemeanor counts:

    • Domestic battery
    • Criminal damage
    • Interference with law enforcement

    On July 15, 2024, the district court dismissed the case without prejudice.

    On Dec. 10, 2023 , Mawyin was arrested on accusations of “domestic battery; knowing or reckless bodily harm to family/person in dating relationship,” according to information from the jail.

    The City of Topeka placed Mawyin on administrative leave Dec. 11, 2023, while a personnel investigation was being conducted. The City decided to “part ways” with Mawyin on Dec. 19, 2023.

    On April 16, 2024, the city announced it appointed Ben Hart as the Interim Chief Financial Officer until a permanent replacement can be found.
