    Athletes with ties to NE Kansas colleges in 2024 Paris Olympics

    TOPEKA ( KSNT ) – There are several athletes, and coaches, with ties to Northeast Kansas universities participating in the 2024 Paris Olympic games, including one connected to Emporia State, six to K-State and eight to KU.

    The list below includes current and former athletes and coaches:

    Emporia State

    • Carey McLeod (Jamaica) – Men’s Long Jump

    K-State

    • Eugene Omalla (Netherlands) – Men’s 4×400 Relay
    • Murphy Sheaff (New Zealand) – Women’s Soccer
    • Laura Galvan (Mexico) – Women’s 5,000m
    • Leticia Romero (Spain) – Women’s Basketball
    • Derrick Mein (USA) – Trap Shooting
    • Travis Geopfert (New head track coach) – Coaching individual track and field athletes

    Kansas

    • Bryce Hoppel (USA) – Men’s 800m
    • Michael Joseph (St. Lucia) – Men’s 400m
    • Sharon Lokedi (Kenya) – Women’s marathon
    • Yoveinny Mota (Venezuela) – Women’s 100m hurdles
    • Alexandra Emilianov (Moldova) – Women’s Discus
    • Hussain Al Hizam (Saudi Arabia) – Men’s Pole Vault
    • Joel Embiid (USA) – Men’s basketball
    • Stanley Redwine (USA) – Men’s head track and field coach
