Miami Marlins Jake Burger Is On Fire

Miami Marlins Third Baseman Jake Burger has been the hottest hitter in Major League Baseball over the last month. Burger has 12 home runs since the MLB All-Star break, the most in the league over that span. He added to his league-leading total this afternoon at home against the streaking San Diego Padres with a two-run home run in the bottom of the second inning. He went 3-of-4 with 2 RBI this afternoon as the Miami Marlins defeated the red-hot Padres 7-6. Miami withstood an offensive onslaught to avoid being swept.

Burger has come on strong in July and August after a very slow start to the 2024 regular season. He hit .287 in July and is hitting .325 this month. Burger is hitting .251 this season with 22 home runs and 53 RBI. Will he be able to keep up his strong play at the plate as the Miami Marlins look to finish the regular season on a high note?

Burger made his MLB debut in 2021 as a member of the Chicago White Sox. He spent parts of the first three seasons in Chicago before being dealt to the Miami Marlins at the 2023 MLB Trade Deadline. Burger is a career .250 hitter with 65 home runs and 162 RBI.

It has been a rough season for the Marlins(44-75). They are firmly in last place in the National League East and have the third-worst record in Major League Baseball. Their offense has not been strong this season. They are 22nd in batting average, 27th in home runs, and 29th in runs scored. Burger leads the Marlins in all important offensive categories as the players ahead of him in certain categories, mainly Jazz Chisholm Jr, are no longer on the roster. The Miami Marlins were massive sellers at the 2024 MLB Trade Deadline.

Miami's pitching staff has also struggled in 2024. They are 27th in ERA, 18th in strikeouts, and 27th in opposing batting average. Relief Pitcher Anthony Bender leads the team in wins(4) of players still on the roster of the Miami Marlins.

Marlins Upcoming Schedule

Miami has a day off tomorrow before beginning a five-game divisional road trip. They visit the Philadelphia Phillies for a two-game series beginning on Tuesday and a three-game set with the New York Mets that gets underway on Friday.

After an improbable run to the 2023 MLB Playoffs, the Miami Marlins will not be participating in the postseason this year. In what has been a rough season for Miami, Jake Burger has been one of the few bright spots for the team this season.
