(FOX40.COM) — A semi-truck fire and explosion in Tracy was caused by the driver’s alleged misuse of the vehicle’s brake system while also being under the influence of alcohol, according to Tracy Police.

The agency said that its officers responded on Wednesday just before 4 a.m. to calls of an explosion and a semi-truck on fire in the area of Gandy Dancer Drive and Tracy Blvd., in the south side of the city.

Officers were able to find the driver, a 35-year-old resident of Tracy, who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, police said.

The investigators determined that the driver had the truck’s emergency brake on while driving, which led to a fire and the vehicle’s tires exploding.

The driver was detained after officers administered a sobriety test and a breathalyzer to the driver, police said.
