No matter what state you live in, some towns and cities make it extremely hard to find work, stay safe, or just enjoy life.

While the Magnolia State is home to countless incredible places to call home, it still has some pretty not-so-incredible options as well.

The site known as 24/7 Wall Street has created a weighted index of over two dozen metrics to identify the worst place to live in each state. It considered things like high crime rates, dilapidated properties, and the cost of living.

So where is the worst place to live in the state of Mississippi? According to 24/7 Wall Street, that would be Yazoo City.

Yazoo City is located roughly an hour north of Jackson. It is home to 10,163 residents.

So what is it about Yazoo City that makes it the worst city to live in? Well, the poverty rate, for one.

According to the most recent data pulled from the United States Census Bureau, 39.1% of the population is considered below the poverty line, a number that is much higher than the national average of 12.8%

The city has lost 2.9% of its population over the last ten years, and in addition to this, the unemployment rate is 11.8%, which is more than double the 5% state average unemployment rate.

While living in a top-rated city by no means guarantees happiness, conditions like poverty, crime, and a lack of employment opportunities can detract majorly from your quality of life. To check out the full list of worst places to call home in the country, click here.
