Alabama is going to keep paying Nick Saban

There might not be anyone in college football earning a better retirement paycheck than Nick Saban right now.

The legendary Alabama Crimson Tide head coach announced his retirement shortly after the team's Rose Bowl loss to the Michigan Wolverines. Despite Kalen DeBoer taking over, Saban will continue to serve as an advisor for the program.

According to Nick Kelly with the Tuscaloosa News , Saban is still employed by the university. He will make $500,000 annually thanks to an advisory role, according to public records obtained by the outlet.

It's not as much as Saban was making annually as a head coach, but it's still a significant payday to serve in a vague role where it's unclear who involved he will actually be. Meanwhile, Saban will also be getting paid by ESPN as he serves as an analyst for College GameDay.

If anything, the annual salary feels like a parting thank you gift from the university. Saban won six of his seven national titles with the Crimson Tide along with nine SEC championships. He posted a 201-29 record with the program, winning at least 10 games every single season besides his first one in 2007.

Saban will likely continue to offer advice to his successor in Kalen DeBoer. The new Alabama head coach is off to a strong start, at least on the recruiting front. The Crimson Tide currently hold the second-best recruiting class in the nation for 2025, according to 247Sports .

Regardless of how much he contributes as an advisor, you won't hear fans of the Crimson Tide complaining about continuing to pay Saban after his retirement.
