After 28 years and seven national championships as a college head coach, Nick Saban decided to step down following the past season.

On Friday morning, the Board of Trustees in Alabama honored the coaching legend by officially renaming the field at Bryant-Denny Stadium to Saban Field. The football playground will be formally dedicated to Saban during halftime at the Crimson Tide's Sep. 7, 2024, game against South Florida.

The seven-time national champion told a Birmingham, Ala., TV station, WVTM 13 , that he considers this recognition an "honor."

However, ESPN's Paul Finebaum believes it is a major insult to Saban, as he thinks the stadium should be named after the football coach, not just the field.

"I frankly think it's an insult to Nick Saban," Finebaum said. "To me, he's way beyond having a field. His name should be on the stadium."

Finebaum expressed his reservations about naming fields after coaches, stating that he has never heard broadcasters mention it in any context other than an official one.

When thinking of a team playing at Auburn, Finebaum pointed out that people typically think of the team playing at Jordan-Hare Stadium rather than Pat Dye Field.

So, while Alabama believes it is honoring a school legend, Finebaum considers it a major insult.
