It’s a new era for college football with an expanded playoff, one less power conference, and a whole lot of new faces on new teams.

One of those is former USC Trojan cornerback Domani Jackson. He weighed the Trojans, Michigan Wolverines, and Alabama Crimson Tide in high regard during his high school recruitment, and it seemed like he kept a good relationship with the program in Tuscaloosa announcing his transfer to Saban’s squad following his sophomore year.

However, not soon after making the announcement, Saban retired from college football. New head coach Kalen DeBoer did an incredible job keeping many of Saban’s top high school and transfer portal recruits following the legendary coach’s exit. Jackson told Alabama beat writer Nick Kelly why he was among them.

“Truthfully, the A doesn’t change,” Jackson said. “It’s still a powerhouse in college football. I just wanted to have a change and reset my college career. I just felt like this was the best opportunity for me.”

Jackson came into college as one of the top recruits in the 2023 class. He made a difficult decision to leave his home state of California to get this fresh start. He was the No. 1 overall recruit in California for the 2022 class.

Jackson will have a tall task ahead of him in the new SEC. The Crimson Tide open the conference schedule against their 2023 SEC Championship Game opponent, the Georgia Bulldogs. They kick off the regular season against Western Kentucky. That game is scheduled to kick off at 7:00 P.M. ET on Aug 31.
