A Secret Service agent was robbed at gunpoint during President Joe Biden 's campaign trip to Los Angeles over the weekend, and local police are seeking the public's help identifying a suspect vehicle.

The Tustin Police Department said in a statement on Monday, June 17, that officers responded to a report of a possible robbery at around 9:36 p.m. Saturday in the community south of Los Angeles. Police said the victim was a member of the U.S. Secret Service and "his bag was stolen at gunpoint."

Police also said the Secret Service agent discharged his weapon during the robbery. Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi confirmed the agent, who was off duty and returning from work, discharged his service weapon during the incident, but it was "unknown is the assailants were struck."

"We are thankful that the employee did not sustain any injuries," Guglielmi said, noting an investigation is underway.

The incident took place on the same night Biden attended a star-studded fundraiser alongside former President Barack Obama , actors Julia Roberts and George Clooney, and late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, which brought in more than $30 million.

Tustin police revealed officers "located some of the victim's belongings in the area." Police said a 2004-2006 silver Infiniti FX35 or similar vehicle was seen leaving the scene.

Police are asking for the public's help locating the suspect vehicle and identifying the suspect or suspects involved in the crime. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Melendrez at 714-573-3372 or gmelendrez@tustinca.org.
