PHOENIX — The northbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) off-ramp at Princess Drive/Pima Road in north Scottsdale will be closed for approximately 60 days starting Wednesday, July 31, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT).

The closure is part of the Loop 101 Improvement Project, which aims to widen the freeway. Motorists who normally use the Princess Drive off-ramp should plan to take an alternate route.

Drivers could exit northbound Loop 101 at Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard and use the northbound frontage road to access Princess Drive/Pima Road.

ADOT advises drivers to allow extra travel time, reduce speed, and be cautious of other vehicles entering the freeway during construction. Drivers should also anticipate increased traffic congestion and delays in the area.

The $108 million Loop 101 Improvement Project, which began in January, involves expanding the freeway between Shea Boulevard and Princess Drive/Pima Road.

The project includes adding one lane in each direction over a 4.5-mile stretch, converting the Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard interchange to a diamond configuration, and installing new signs, traffic signals, and lighting to enhance safety and traffic flow.

According to ADOT, the northbound Loop 101 off-ramp at Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard, which closed in late May, is scheduled to reopen on Saturday morning, July 27.

Throughout the two-year project, on- and off-ramps between Shea Boulevard and Pima Road/Princess Drive will be rebuilt to accommodate the expanded freeway.

Funded in part by Proposition 400, the project is expected to be completed in early 2026 and is also a key component of the Regional Transportation Plan managed by the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG).
