Tracking midday and afternoon strong storm chances for Independence Day
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy 4th of July! We are tracking some rain and storm chances as we head into your late morning and afternoon hours today. It won’t be a complete washout today, but have the rain gear handy. The best chance to see rain will be during your late morning and afternoon hours. It’s also going to feel very muggy outside through the day. Intermittent heavy downpours will be possible with any of the storms that go up due to all of that heat and moisture. There is also a severe risk out for all of central and eastern Kentucky. The Storm Prediction Center has added a Level 2 Severe Risk along and north of I-64 and the Bluegrass Parkway. A Level 1 Severe Risk remains in place for the rest of the area. The main severe weather threat will be isolated damaging wind gusts. There is also a quick spin-up tornado threat. It’s again on the lower end, but there could be some rotation that may spark a few warnings. Make sure you are staying Weather Aware throughout the day!
