Sports hatred can arise from many different causes. Geographic or historical rivalries are probably the most common reason to start hating a team or a player. A specific game or event could have the same effect with lingering animosity. It could even be something about a team’s culture or traditions that just rubs you the wrong way. I can’t really put my finger on a single cause, but the 2002 Ohio State team is one of the college football teams I hated most in my life. Even now, it makes me viscerally angry to think about the bogus pass interference penalty that gave the Buckeyes the second chance they needed to beat Miami in the National Championship Game.
Ohio State baseball adds pitcher from transfer portal
The Ohio State baseball team has added a pitcher via the transfer portal this week. Spencer Hill announced his commitment to the Buckeyes via social media. Hill is a central Ohio native growing up in the northwest suburb of New Albany. A 2020 graduate, Hill spent a post-graduate season at Bridgeton Academy where he posted a 2-0 record with 13 strikeouts in a COVID-19-shortened season. From there Hill headed to Northern Illinois for a year before landing at UNC-Asheville.

A new target for treatment of one type of macular degeneration
COLUMBUS, Ohio – A new study in mice hints at the promise of an eventual alternative treatment option for the “wet” version of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Researchers determined in mice that an enzyme related to cell growth and division is a culprit in the blood vessel invasion in the back of the eye that causes blurred central vision in wet AMD. Targeting the enzyme, called telomerase, with an experimental drug suppressed abnormal vascular growth in the animals’ retina.
