    One person dead following ATV accident

    UPSHUR COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – One man has died following an ATV crash late Saturday night.

    According to the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office, on Saturday, August 3, 2024, an ATV crash occurred resulting in the death of Joshua Matthew Shrift of Buckhannon.

    At approximately 11:57 PM, deputies were dispatched to a single-vehicle crash on Sand Run Road.

    Investigations revealed that Mr. Shrift was operating a 2019 Suzuki LT ATV when he lost control, veered off the roadway, and crashed into a pond.

    Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

    The West Virginia State Police, Buckhannon Fire Department, and Upshur County EMS were also on-site to assist with the investigation, which remains ongoing.

    Mr. Shrift’s body has been taken to the West Virginia State Medical Examiner’s Office in Charleston for further examination.
