2024 Leagues Cup quarterfinals schedule: Bracket, teams, how to watch

    By Jim Reineking, USA TODAY,

The 2024 edition of Leagues Cup is down to its elite eight, so to speak.

And Major League Soccer teams have been dominating the competition. Of the eight quarterfinal teams, six are from MLS (and it should be pointed out that Liga MX was guaranteed at least one spot because Mazatlán and Cruz Azul faced off in the previous knockout round).

Liga MX's Leagues Cup hopes ride on the aforementioned Mazatlán — a club that currently is near the bottom of the league table — and Club América — a powerhouse that figures to contend for the 2024 Leagues Cup trophy.

Club América's task won't be easy, however. While on paper its matchup against the Colorado Rapids figures to favor the iconic Liga MX club, the Rapids are coming off three straight wins over Liga MX teams. After beating 2023 Concacaf Champions League winner Club León in the final group stage game in a penalty shootout, the Rapids defeated Juárez and Toluca in the knockout rounds to reach the quarterfinals.

If Club América gets through the Rapids, it will face the winner of what might be the best matchup of the quarterfinals, Seattle Sounders vs. Los Angeles FC . Both squads enter Saturday's quarterfinal in peak form. While the Sounders have won their two knockout games by a combined score of 7-1, LAFC is coming off a 4-1 rout of the San Jose Earthquakes in which French soccer icon Olivier Giroud made his Los Angeles debut .

The Columbus Crew are in the quarterfinals after an exhilarating win over 2023 Leagues Cup winner Inter Miami . The Crew host a New York City FC team that eliminated another top Liga MX club, Tigres. (The current top eight teams in the Liga MX standings are all out of the competition now after that result.)

The Philadelphia Union were the third-place finishers in the 2023 Leagues Cup and have put themselves in position for another deep tournament run. The Union host Mazatlán in the quarterfinals.
