SEC analyst continues his praise of Texas A&M QB Conner Weigman

Texas A&M redshirt sophomore quarterback Conner Weigman has much to prove ahead of the 2024 season after missing the final eight games of the 2023 campaign due to an ankle injury that prematurely ended his first starting season.

With head coach Mike Elko now heading things in College Station, Weigman’s familiarity with the program’s former defensive coordinator is an obvious plus. At the same time, new OC Collin Klein brings a motion-heavy scheme that should set the offense up for success after years of predictability under former head coach Jimbo Fisher.

In just four games last season, Weigman threw for nearly 1,000 yards and eight touchdowns while quickly showing how good he can be, possessing elite accuracy and touch. His toughness and instincts will continue to set him apart from a long list of starting signal callers if his receivers and, most importantly, his offensive line help him out.

This week, SEC analyst Jordan Rodgers continued his offseason praise for the Aggies QB after it was revealed that Texas A&M will start the season ranked No. 20 in the latest preseason. Rodgers feels the Aggies are being undervalued, especially with Weigman under center:

“I think Conner Weigman is one of the best quarterbacks in the entire country. I think he is completely overlooked,” Rodgers stated. “If you flip on the Miami tape from last year, you will not find a game, a single game from any quarterback with as many big-time throws as Conner made in that game.”

Further noting that last season’s offensive counterparts didn’t help Weigman on several occasions, Rogers feels that Klein’s offense should hopefully fix those issues:

‘You add Collin Klein, who’s coming to build this offense around him (Weigman). I’ve been the one pounding the table of this Jimbo offense for years, saying do something to help your quarterback,” Rogers stated. “Move somebody pre-snap, go in a different formation; it didn’t happen. Last year, I started to see a little bit of it, and you saw the potential that Weigman has.”

Texas A&M will open the 2024 season vs. Notre Dame on Saturday, August 31. The game will air on ABC at 6:30 p.m. CT.
