Matt Rhule says Javin Wright’s recovery trending in the right direction

Nebraska football coach Matt Rhule gave an encouraging update on linebacker Javin Wright as the program prepares to take on the C olorado Buffaloes on Saturday.

The linebacker has been dealing with a health issue that has kept him out for the start of the season. He has a history of blood clots and needed surgery in 2021 to combat them.

Wright had a productive season for the Huskers last year, recording 51 tackles. That was good enough for second on the team. He has 60 tackles and two interceptions in five seasons in Lincoln.

Wright’s return has no timetable as of now. Even still, Rhule provided some positive news.

“We got a really positive update on him today and things are trending in the right direction for him to come back at some point sooner than later. There’s a lot of steps that have to happen so I don’t want to put the cart before the horse, but he’s battling and doing everything right.”

Wright would be a welcome return in a linebacker room, which is an integral part of the defense. He would also be able to provide experience for a defensive unit that has several young contributors and a good mix of returning veterans.
