North Carolina quarterback vows to return in 2025

It was not the start of the 2024 college football season that Max Johnson wanted for the North Carolina Tar Heels. While Mack Brown’s team went to Minnesota and won on the opening night of the season, the quarterback’s season came to an end when Johnson broke his leg in the third quarter.

The 23-year-old though does plan to return for another season, telling ESPN he has “a lot of football left in me” and that he will be back next year.

Johnson is the son of former Super Bowl winning signal caller Brad Johnson. He started his career at LSU , before going to Texas A&M for two seasons. He chose to transfer again, this time to Chapel Hill. In four seasons, Johnson has played in 31 games and thrown for just shy of 6,000 yards and 47 touchdowns.

Without Johnson, Conner Harrell will start under center. The Tar Heels have a Week 2 home game against Charlotte, and then they will see North Carolina Central and James Madison. The next road game for the Tar Heels is September 28th at Duke .
