The Colorado Snowsports Museum in Vail will screen The Lost Mountaineers August 14 at the museum's facility in Vail ( 231 S Frontage Rd E, Vail, CO 81657 ).

While there are now many films about the Tenth Mountain Division ( Fire on the Mountain , Mission Mount Mangart , Climb to Glory , etc.), they all seem to deliver high quality information and entertainment.

The Lost Mountaineers (not to be confused with the Mallory and Irvine film of the same name) is a documentary about 25 American soldiers who lost their lives when their amphibious vehicle sank at Lake Garda on April 30, 1945.

Lake Garda is Italy's biggest lake and a popular holiday spot for people from all over Europe. The lake juts into the Alps sub-ranges of the Garda Mountains and the Brenta Group—both areas known for some decent hiking and climbing.

The 25 men who died were soldiers of the Tenth Mountain Division, and were declared MIA.

Almost sixty years later, a group of passionate history researchers set out in search of the vehicle and its crew.

"The story of these 25 young men is not very well known, but telling their tale will hopefully give solace and some closure to their families, many of whom are in contact with our organization Benàch," noted the National Association of the 10th Mountain Division.

"In order to pay tribute to these men and have their story told, we want to have a version of this docufilm in Italian and English. By doing so, we will be improving the quality and integrity of the experience while watching it.

Filmmakers Ben and Antonella will attend the screening. They worked on the film as producers and historical advisers for the nonprofit project.

Following the film, there will be a Q&A. The screening is free with a suggested donation at the door.

    See you there!
