Man in 30s killed in crash near Santa Paula

A man in his 30s was found dead Sunday after a crash off Highway 126 in the Santa Paula area.

The motorist was driving alone in a Volkswagen sedan west of Briggs Road and reportedly going at high speeds when for unknown reasons he turned off the roadway and overturned, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol said.

The crash on the eastbound side of the highway was reported shortly before 3 a.m., according to the Ventura County Fire Department.

CHP spokesman Ryan Ayala said the man was found in the driver's seat with his seatbelt fastened. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Ayala said.

His identity has not yet been disclosed.
