NORTH PORT — The Friends of Shannon Staub Public Library’s board of directors hosted a ribbon-cutting this month for its new library lobby kiosk.

The kiosk is an extension of FriendShop, the Friends’ used bookstore. The store is in the lobby of the Sarasota Technical College, 4445 Career Lane, North Port, which shares the library’s campus, and the store also serves as the college’s bookstore.

During the ceremony, which was officiated by the North Port Area Chamber of Commerce, the Friends formally acknowledged the $3,000 grant from the the Anna V. Pfister, Nellie Mae Koss and Helen K. Hadden Memorial Endowment Fund of Gulf Coast Community Foundation, which funded the project. A plaque citing this gift was mounted on the face of the Kiosk desk.

The board dedicated the kiosk to the memory of Marcia Williams, a founding member of the Friends and long-time vice president.

Former board president Liz Napoli affixed the memorial plaque to the kiosk’s bookcase.

Friends leadership thanked the STC Carpentry program, instructor Bill Mousseau, and Steven Czepiga, the student who built the Kiosk.

The Friends are looking for volunteers to help staff the bookstore. Those wishing to volunteer for two-hour shifts may fill out application forms available at the Kiosk, in the Friends bookstore, or at www.friendsofsspl.org. For more information, call FriendShop managers Alan at 231-912-7541 or Sheri at 631 375-3267.
