Local food banks call for support to strengthen Farm Bill
VERONA, Va. (WHSV)—The Blue Ridge Aera Food Bank (BRAFB) is asking the community to advocate for and strengthen the Farm Bill. The Farm Bill is a comprehensive set of laws approved approximately every five years that influence farming livelihoods and food production methods. It encompasses many programs, including The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), which supplements low-income people’s diets by providing them with emergency food assistance at no cost.
Blue Ridge Area Food Bank discusses summer volunteer drop, needed donations
VERONA, Va. (WHSV) - The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank sees a drop in volunteers during the summer months. Triple digit heat index expected Tuesday in Augusta County
A heat advisory remains in effect 11 a.m. Tuesday to 8 p.m. this evening, according to an "urgent" alert issued at 4:11 a.m. from the National Weather Service. Heat index values up to 104 degrees are expected in the valleys, including central and eastern Augusta, Rockingham and Highland counties and cities of Staunton, Waynesboro and Stuarts Draft.
