    Truman Foundation awards Tioga County students attending BU

    VESTAL, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – The Mildred Faulkner Truman Foundation of Owego is continuing to provide assistance to Tioga County students attending Binghamton University in the fall.

    The foundation has awarded $15,000 grant to help eligible students with the cost of school. Eligibility for this funding is based on Tioga County residency and financial necessity, which is determined by the Binghamton University Financial Aid Office through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form.

    The Truman Foundation has provided scholarships to 567 Tioga County students since 1998. Currently, there are 106 undergraduate students from Tioga County enrolled at the University. Of these, 51 students qualified for financial assistance.

    Born in Owego in 1897, Mildred Faulkner Truman was a director of the Owego National Bank and the Tioga County Historical Society. She was also a member of the First Presbyterian Union Church.

    Binghamton University donates $28k to local nonprofits

    Truman died in 1983. Upon her death, Truman’s estate established a foundation to support non-profit organizations serving Tioga County residents. The foundation works to provide grants for critical needs, aid for capital projects, and seed money for special projects and programs.
