An Adelanto man killed in a two-vehicle crash along Highway 138 near Phelan over the weekend has been identified by authorities.

Andrew L. Shih, 85, died shortly after Friday's 9:10 p.m. collision on the highway at Sayle Road, just south of Phelan, according to San Bernardino County Coroner and California Highway Patrol officials.

He was at the wheel of a 2006 Ford pickup truck headed west along Sayle at unknown speed prior to the crash, according to a CHP statement. A 2022 Nissan was headed east on Highway 138 at about 55 mph, being driven by a 60-year-old Moreno Valley man.

"The Ford made an unsafe turning movement to the left, crossing into oncoming traffic directly in front of the Nissan," the statement said. "The front right of the Ford crashed into the front of the Nissan and caused the Ford to roll over."

Shih died from his injuries at the scene, officials said.

The driver of the Nissan was treated for injuries described by the CHP as minor. No arrests were made.
