From June 14-16, the Wake Forest FUNGO played in three games, facing the High Point Sock Pups and the Reidsville Luckies twice.

Wake Forest took two wins in the series as their divisional record moves to an even 4-4, one game out of No. 2 in the Central Division, and are No. 10 in the league.

    Game one versus the Luckies

FUNGO kicked off the weekend with the first game against the Luckies. These two teams faced off earlier in the month, as Wake Forest shut them out 10-0 on June 7.

The Luckies got their revenge at home, narrowly beating out FUNGO 9-8.

Wake Forest held the advantage through much of the game, leading 2-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth and after two runs by the Luckies, Wake Forest responded with two of their own. Following a four-run frame by Wake Forest, the Luckies were facing an 8-3 deficit heading into the bottom of the seventh.

The Luckies, with the game nearing its end, found their stride in the eighth, scoring six runs and securing the 9-8 win after Wake Forest failed to score in the ninth.

    Versus the Sock Pups

FUNGO bounced back well after the loss, taking down the Sock Pups 10-0.

All 10 runs came in a three-innings stretch, scoring three in the fourth and sixth and four in the fifth.

FUNGO pitcher Conner Elliott won player of the game with a complete seven-inning shutout, allowing five hits while striking out six.

“Feel good, everything felt good, glad we could get a W,” said Elliott following the game.

JonAlan Richardson, despite just one hit, had two RBIs and a team-leading three runs.

Lucas Granata led the team in RBIs with four on a single and a double. He also walked twice, getting on base on all four plate appearances. This, however, only resulted in one run for him.

    Game two versus the Luckies

Just two games after their loss to the Luckies, FUNGO faced them again and took their revenge dominantly.

Wake Forest took the 7-0 win at home, shutting out the Luckies for the second time this season and Wake Forest’s second straight shutout. FUNGO outhit the Luckies 14-4 in the game and scored in five of the nine innings.

FUNGO selected two co-players of the game, with Arnav Ghuliani and Morgan Miller both earning the title.

Ghuliani had a great game on the mound, pitching four innings and striking out eight while allowing only one hit.

Miller led the team at the plate getting three hits, tying for the team-high with Richardson, two of which going for doubles These three hits for Miller resulted in two RBIs and a run.
