Massachusetts lawyer group demands school districts stop denying migrant children the right to attend school
Saugus, Mass. – Pushing back against what they say is a recent wave of school districts seeking to illegally deny migrant children the right to attend school, Lawyers for Civil Rights and Massachusetts Advocates for Children today demanded that Saugus Public Schools immediately revise its Student Admissions Policy. They believe that the policy, adopted in August 2023, imposes overly stringent residency and proof-of-identity requirements and impermissibly denies admission to children of families who have not filled out the Town Census.

Quincy Middle School to enforce no-cell-phone policy starting November
QUINCY — The Quincy School District will implement a no-cell-phone policy at Quincy Middle School starting in November of the upcoming school year. At the Tuesday night school board meeting, the district presented a report on being "cell phone-free" at the middle school. Some of the benefits they believe students will gain from the decision are supportive learning, less distraction in the classroom, improved mental health, fewer student meetings outside of class, and decreased bullying on social media.
MEA contract talks hit another roadblock, may require mediator
After a five-hour negotiating session, the Marblehead Education Association announced that the School Committee “indicated that they plan to unilaterally walk away from the bargaining table with our hardworking custodians and request mediation from a state-appointed mediator,” according to a press release from the Marblehead Education Association. The custodians have been working without a contract since June 30.
