Man arrested for drugs, guns and indecent exposure

On Feb. 23, officers responded to Angelos Liquors on St. Patricks Drive in Waldorf for the report of indecent exposure and the possible sale of drugs.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers talked to a witness who informed them that a man in a camouflage jacket allegedly got out of a black Hyundai Elantra, began urinating in the parking lot and was distributing something to multiple individuals who came up to his car, according to charging documents.

As officers approached the vehicle, the Elantra drove away, leading to a high-speed chase that ended over the Prince George’s County line only after the man’s vehicle began smoking and broke down on Bealle Hill Road, the document says.

Just before the vehicle broke down, the man allegedly threw a white bag out of the car window into the median. After a felony stop was conducted, officers identified the man as Jonathan Marcale Groom, 25.

During a search, officers allegedly found Groom in possession of oxycodone, 229 grams of cannabis, a loaded Ruger 9 mm handgun and 11 grams of crack cocaine, charging documents say.

It was learned during Groom’s transport to Charles County Detention Center that he was not given permission to drive the Elantra, and the owner had left him in the passenger seat while she went into a nail salon. Groom does not have a license, the charging document says.

Groom received charges for a handgun in the vehicle, drug possession with intent to distribute, indecent exposure and unlawfully taking a motor vehicle.
