    Walla Walla District of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Welcomes New Commanding Officer

    WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- Lieutenant Col. Kathryn Werback is now command of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Walla Walla District after a change of command ceremony Friday morning.

    During the change of command ceremony, Lt. Col. ShaiLin Kingslack passed the torch to Lt. Col. Kathryn Werback.

    For the past two years, KingSlack, native to Elk Grove, California served as the Walla Walla districts commander. KingSlack is expected to transfer to Joint Base Lewis-McChord to begin service as the Corps Engineer for U.S. Army's I Corps.

    Werback most recently served as deputy commander of Portland's district in Oregon.

    The Walla Walla District is more than 100,000 square miles and spans into six states, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada and Utah and was established in 1948.

    " It is a multi-faceted district responsible for providing hydropower, environmental stewardship, flood risk management and recreation opportunities, and maintaining a commercial navigation channel in the Snake and Columbia River basins." Officials wrote.
