Aces lose to Jacks 10-2 on the road

Veterans Memorial Field in Wanamingo was one of the few baseball fields around the area able to host a game Sunday, as the Owatonna Aces played against the Wanamingo Jacks.

While parts of the outfield were still damp, the game still went on as planned Sunday afternoon.

Things looked good right off the bat for the Aces, as Kodey Kiel hit a two-out, two-run home run to give them an early 2-0 lead. But that was the only lead the Aces had on the day, as the Jacks tied the game up in the bottom half of the first.

The Jacks went ahead in the bottom of the second inning due to an error by the Aces to make the score 3-2. Alex Roosen of the Jacks then crushed a two-run home run to give the Jacks a five-run lead.

The Jacks went ahead 6-2 at the end of the inning and they scored in the third and fourth innings as well, giving them a commanding 9-2 lead over the Aces. After a scoreless bottom half for the Jacks, a wild throw to first after a potential double play by the Aces resulted in a run.

The last three innings were scoreless, with the Aces falling to the Jacks 10-2. The Jacks had an opportunity to add on to their 10 runs in the bottom of the seventh after the first three batters reached base by hit by pitches, but Mitch Seykora came into to pitch and retired the next three Jacks batters in a row without allowing a run.

The Aces had just one less hit than the jacks, with them having 10 to the Jacks 11, but crucial errors and wild pitches lead Wanamingo to take a demanding lead early on.

The Aces net game has them take on the Dodge County Diamond Backs on the road on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
